If I got a Dell Inspiron 1521 and had problems with it, could I have my dad take it to work and have his computer friends look at it? He works at Tyson with computers and they use Dell laptops AND desktops, so they have their own customer service. Would this work??? I mean problems like with installing computer games, memory, hard drive, the screen, etc. People say Dell has a sucky computer service in India or something, so I would rather use my dad’s work if I could. My suggestion would be to buy a new mobo and processor along with 2gb memory. Then all of your other perpetuals will work with the mobo.

Here is a link for a mobo and processor, with this mobo you can unlock the processor and make it dual core. I have use this setup in several upgrades lately and it really works nicely. Also get 2gig of memory to go with it.

the possibility is that if it doens’t have a cd drive that there is a recovery pertition on the hard drive. this should be eviddent during post as it will tell you something like “to access recovery drive press alt+f11″ or some such.

I’ve read a couple of articles on ehow and other places like that but none of them work for me.
I wanted to use F8 to get to advanced boot mode.

Click “repair your computer” so I can get to “restore Dell Settings” but that option isn’t listed. What am I doing wrong?

It`s Ctrl and F11 at startup for XP, to restore factory settings.
This will work as long as you have a restore partition, which I think you do have.

You need to make sure that the laptop has a wireless adaptor and that it can see and recognize wireless networks…after that…you need to make sure it is turned on VIA lights on the card if it is removable or light on laptop if it’s internal…usually you can click start…connect to…and select your wireless network…if you do not have a wireless adapter, then you need to purchase one to put into it…otherwise you may have a network card that you can connect to your modem via ethernet cord.
